In
both Glencoe and Winnetka, the Grand Food Center has a long tradition
of serving the community. Our Winnetka store began in the early
seventies as an A&P store. Today, the Grand Food Center is one of
the last standing of the originally designed A&P stores! Many
Glencoe residents know our store as the former Dee Jay Foods,
built in 1953: first as the National Tea Store, and then later renamed
Dee Jay Foods by the owners, Dave and Jim. One of the current
owners is Daniel J. Klebba,
so the store's name continues to reflect the initials of its ownership.
Though the names have changed, the stores continue to be a centerpiece
of each community. As on premise owners,
we listen carefully to our customers to be sure to exceed your
expectations (see our guarantee
below). We are proud to be Winnetka and Glencoe's neighborhood supermarket, where our family serves your family every day. |

DANIEL
KLEBBA - DanK@grandfoodcenter.com |
|

Having
lived in Glencoe since the age of twelve, Dan had become
familiar with many residents and decided to seek employment
in the village at the age of sixteen.
By the age of eighteen, Dan had worked his way to assistant manager,
and had bigger plans from there! At the age of twenty-four, he
formed a partnership agreement and bought out the stores from
the then-owner, Dave Oliver. Having worked shoulder to shoulder
with Kevin for many years and understanding Chris's experience
could help, it was time to move the company to the next level.
The partnership today provides a combination of over 70 years
of food business experience. Ever the punster, Dan will never lose
his "hunger" for the business. |

CHRISTOPHER
BARBER - ChrisB@grandfoodcenter.com |

Chris
Barber has moved from bagger to meat cutter to co-owner of Grand
Food Center, with a couple of stops in-between.
Chris moved to Glencoe in 1968. In 1981, he was hired to bag groceries
at the store, then called Lakeside Foods, and shortly thereafter renamed
Dee Jay Foods. Chris took an interest in the Meat and Dairy departments
and soon became an apprentice meat cutter. In the years to follow,
Chris became the meat, seafood and deli manager until 1993.
When he completed his studies at Northwestern University he left
the company to join Boston Chicken Inc. Chris was one of the first
employees hired by Boston Chicken to start the Einstein Bagel
chain. Chris was the Director of Purchasing, opening more than
540 stores.
Chris eventually moved back to Chicago to become a principal in
a small restaurant chain known as "Asia Bowl", followed
by a stay as controller for the Wishbone Restaurant and another
with the Kudan Group in Glenview brokering restaurant sales.
In 2004, Chris returned to Dee Jay Foods (now the Grand Food Center) as a partner with Kevin Salus and Dan Klebba. |

KEVIN
SALUS - KevinS@grandfoodcenter.com |
|

Kevin
came to us from Lake Geneva, Wisconsin, where he worked as a busboy at a restaurant called The Shore Club. He worked side by side
with his mother Charlotte, who was the chef. The Shore Club was
owned by Archie Gaudreau, who owned several stores on the North
Shore of Chicago.
After graduating high school in 1981, Kevin started working at
Lakeside Foods, in Glencoe, where he met his wife, Linda. "I
still remember my first day, meeting everybody 'in the big city'."
That's where Kevin first met Dan Klebba. "We hit it off and
quickly became friends."
Kevin spent 22 years in that same building, and then three years
ago he was switched to the Grand in Winnetka, where he came
to realize it's nice to work in a different building! Having spent twenty-two
years with the same company, he's ready for the next twenty-five! |
