Community:
The Grand Food Center takes its role as “Your Community Grocer” seriously by supporting local charities and related events throughout the North Shore community. Here is just a glimpse of our recent charitable activities:

Winnetka 5k "Turkey Trot"
The Grand was more than proud to support this local Thanksgiving Classic in nearby Erickson Woods with the donation of bottled water, bananas, and granola bars for 400+ runners. The event benefited Chicago-based WINGS, a shelter for domestic violence victims and their children.

Fun Fair for Farrell
Our bakery department created special butterfly cookies for the fundraiser “Fun Fair for Farrell,” in memory of four-year-old Farrell Maria Murray, who succumbed to retinoblastoma and brain cancer in 2005. The event at Saints Faith, Hope & Charity Parish in Winnetka earned $3,000 for Children’s Memorial Hospital.

New Trier Township Food Pantry
The New Trier Township Food Pantry is the Grand Food Center’s primary benefactor. Glencoe store manager Arnold Jacobson (left) assists pantry volunteer (and township administrator) Brian Leverenz with another donation.

1World Sports
The Chicago non-profit 1WorldSports dedicates itself to helping Chicago inner city kids learn about sportsmanship, the value of education, and nutrition. The Grand Food Center donated bottles of icy-cold water, juicy apples and nutritious snacks to 100 kids who took part in the 1WorldSports/Chicago Cubs event at “Little Cubs Field” in Chicago’s Humboldt Park this summer.

2011 Nielson
Pro Tennis Championship

The Grand Food Center was a sponsor of the 2011 Nielsen Pro Tennis Championship. Prior to the event, our Winnetka store parking lot doubled as a tennis court for an onsite exhibition.

Field Day
Students at Carleton Washburne School participate in “Field Day,” a school tradition that encourages students to participate outside in team sports for a fun, all-day event. Hungry students took a break at lunchtime to enjoy a barbeque lunch provided by The Grand Food Center.

Winnetka Women’s Walk
As a proud sponsor of the annual Winnetka Women’s Walk, The Grand Food Center provided flowers this year for a Wilmette home featured on the spring house walk.

New Trier Township Food Pantry
Co-owners (L-R) Kevin Salus, Chris Barber and Dan Klebba each have a soft spot in their hearts for the New Trier Township Food Pantry, and the 100+ families that it serves. This fall, they encouraged shoppers to make a food pantry donation by agreeing to match EVERY donation made. The result was two mini-vans full of non-perishable food items and paper products to restock the pantry shelves--just in time for the holidays!
