Sunset's highly anticipated annual Hatch Chile Fest is here again, and we couldn't be more excited to celebrate this unique and flavorful event with you. You’re in for a treat with our Hatch chiles, which have become a seasonal favorite.

What is a Hatch Chile?

Hatch chiles are a special variety of chili pepper grown in the Hatch Valley of New Mexico. Known for their meaty texture and spicy, herbaceous flavor, Hatch chiles are a versatile ingredient that can enhance a wide range of dishes. Much like Champagne, which can only bear the name if it originates from the Champagne region in France, Hatch chiles must be grown in the Hatch Valley to be called by this name. This regional specificity ensures that you are getting an authentic product with a distinctive taste profile.

How Hot Are Hatch Chiles?

The heat level of Hatch chiles can vary, offering a spectrum from mild to hot. On the mild end, they are similar to poblano peppers, providing a gentle heat that adds flavor without overwhelming your taste buds. On the hotter side, they can be compared to jalapeños, offering a more pronounced kick. This range makes Hatch chiles a versatile ingredient suitable for various palates and recipes.

Hatch Chile Roasting Schedule

To celebrate the Hatch Chile Fest, we will be roasting fresh Hatch chiles outside our stores at the following locations from 11 am to 2 pm. The aroma of roasting chiles is something you won't want to miss, and it's the perfect opportunity to buy fresh roasted Hatch peppers.
